Supreme Court rescinds municipal ordinance prohibiting the sale of alcohol

Upon hearing an appeal brought by the I. Municipality of Isla de Pascua against the ruling issued by the Court of Appeals of Valparaiso, the Third Chamber of the Supreme Court unanimously decided to confirm the judgment of first instance in that part which provided for the rescinding of a provision of the New Alcohol Ordinance of said community prohibiting the sale of refrigerated alcoholic beverages on those premises for off-premises consumption, while prohibiting the sale of alcohol in such establishments on Sundays and holidays.

The ruling rescinded part of the provisions of the New Easter Island Alcohol Ordinance, against which a group of merchants advised by BSVV filed an remedy of protection and a complaint of municipal illegality.
